Great Park Design Team Invites Public to Comment on

Great Park Plan

IRVINE:  The Orange County Great Park Corporation and the Great Park Design Team, which includes the architects and landscape designers who are creating the Great Park, are conducting a series of stakeholder meetings seeking public comment on the Great Park conceptual plan before it becomes a finalized master plan in August of this year.

Beginning July 5, 2006, the public will once again have an opportunity to provide input into the design of the Orange County Great Park.  A series of seven stakeholder meetings will be conducted to give the public an opportunity to share their views on what would make the Great Park enjoyable and functional for all Orange County residents.

The seven scheduled stakeholder groups include accessibility, arts, cross cultural, environmental, the Great Park Conservancy, trails – including running, hiking, equestrian, and biking trails, and veterans.  Most stakeholder group sessions will take place at the Great Park unless otherwise noted.

“This is the second series of stakeholders meetings the Orange County Great Park Corporation has offered the public,” said Marsha Burgess, Manager of Public Affairs for the Orange County Great Park Corporation.  “Seeking public input to ensure the Great Park truly serves the people of Orange County is critical to making the Orange County Great Park a success.”

The Great Park Design Team will take all public comments into consideration before finalizing the master plan.  Stakeholders will guide the design team in determining the elements that are included in overall park services.  The designers are also seeking public comment in locating trails, providing special needs access, use of water activities, and creation of a military museum.  Other issues of interest to the community will also be discussed.

The Orange County Great Park will be a major metropolitan park and the focal point of redevelopment of the 4,700-acre former Marine Corps Air Station at El Toro.  The Great Park will include extensive natural areas and open space in addition to recreational and cultural uses.  Much of the acreage surrounding the Great Park will be revitalized by the Lennar Corporation and will include residential, educational, commercial, and retail uses as well as other supporting facilities.
